The video looks like someone simply picked up a phone and explained a product. That apparent simplicity is part of the appeal. But a business commissioning UGC content still has to decide what is being demonstrated, who is speaking and where the footage will be used.
The objective is not to disguise an advertisement as an independent opinion. It is to make a commercially commissioned explanation useful enough that someone wants to watch it.
What do you mean by UGC content?
The term can refer to material customers create independently or content a business commissions from a creator in a customer-like style. Those arrangements are not interchangeable. A real unsolicited review, a paid demonstration and a brand advertisement carry different expectations.
Describe the arrangement plainly in the brief. If the creator has not used the product in a particular way, do not script an invented experience. A conversational tone does not make a fictional testimonial acceptable.
What should the video help a buyer understand?
Choose a question that benefits from seeing something: how the item opens, what a screen does, how a feature compares with an alternative or what a customer should check before ordering. Give the creator accurate reference material.
Avoid filling the opening with praise that could describe any product. The distinctive detail is often the useful part. A demonstration of the actual feature gives the viewer something to evaluate beyond enthusiasm.

How much control should the brand keep?
Control the facts, required information and usage boundaries. Let the creator propose phrasing and pacing that fit their style. A script that forces every sentence into corporate language may remove the reason you chose that creator.
Set the approval process before recording. Identify who verifies product information and who approves the final cut. Separate a factual correction from a preference about delivery so revisions do not become an unclear debate about taste.
What should you check before running it as an ad?
Confirm the channels, duration and permissions relevant to the intended use, including whether a creator’s account identity will be involved. A file you can download is not automatically a complete advertising license.
Review disclosures, background material, music and any third-party appearance. Keep the final approved script and export together. If the campaign changes to promote a different product or claim, reassess the content rather than assuming the original approval covers it.
How do you evaluate the content after launch?
Ask whether the intended audience understood the product and whether the next step made sense. Check comments for recurring confusion that should be answered in the next version. Views alone cannot tell you whether a demonstration addressed a buying concern.
Keep the landing page consistent with the video. A clear explanation followed by an unrelated destination interrupts the experience. The strongest practical use of UGC is not a visual trend; it is an additional way to answer a customer’s question.
Put the decision into practice
- State whether the content is commissioned or independently created.
- Choose one useful buying question.
- Supply accurate product references.
- Agree on advertising usage before production.
- Review the destination as part of the campaign.

Questions readers ask
Does UGC content have to look unpolished?
No. The style should help the explanation feel understandable and appropriate. Deliberately poor sound or confusing footage does not make a claim more authentic.
Can we call a paid demonstration an independent review?
Avoid misrepresenting the relationship. Explain relevant commercial connections and distinguish a commissioned presentation from an independent customer opinion.
